FMG is a leading manufacturer of idlers and offers its customers a wide range of high-quality and durable products for various conveyor systems. We manufacture all rollers with plastic bearing bases quickly and individually according to our customers' specifications. We also manufacture in small quantities.

Are the plastic storage floors electrically dissipative?

The conveyor rollers with plastic bearing floors from FMG Förderelemente are a versatile solution for different conveyor systems and material transport. Especially in environments with flammable liquids, antistatic properties are important to minimize the risk of sparking and potentially dangerous situations. For this reason, FMG also offers idlers with dissipative plastic bearing floors that guarantee an antistatic function.

The discharge of static electricity is an important aspect in many areas, such as in the chemical industry, in refineries, in gas stations or in production facilities for batteries or electronic components. When handling materials used in these environments, electrostatic charges can occur which can cause sparks and dangerous situations. Such risks can be minimized with the conveyor rollers from FMG with dissipative plastic bearing floors.

Carrying rollers with sheet steel bearing floors

Can idlers with sheet steel bearing floors become statically charged?

No, conveyor rollers with sheet steel bearing floors cannot become electrically charged. The sheet steel storage floors are electrically dissipative and thus prevent electrostatic charging. These can be a problem in certain industrial applications as they can disrupt production. In order to avoid this, conductive materials such as sheet steel bearing floors or coatings on support rollers are often used.

However, it is possible that dirt and dust can accumulate on the idlers and cause an electrostatic charge to develop. To avoid this, the idlers should be cleaned regularly. In addition, special conductive cleaning agents can be used to prevent electrostatic charging.

What is the difference between conveyor rollers with plastic bearing bases and conveyor rollers with sheet steel bearing bases?

Idlers are an important part of conveyor systems and are used to move the transported goods. There are different types of conveyor rollers, which differ in material and construction. An important distinguishing criterion concerns the type of storage floors, which can be made of either plastic or sheet steel.

Conveyor rollers with plastic bearing bases have the advantage that they are lighter than conveyor rollers with sheet steel bearing bases. This makes them easier to assemble and overall less stressful for the conveyor system. In addition, plastic storage floors are more resistant to corrosion than sheet steel storage floors and can therefore also be used in damp environments.

Conveyor rollers with sheet steel bearing bases, on the other hand, are more robust and resistant than conveyor rollers with plastic bearing bases. They are therefore particularly suitable for use in heavily used areas, such as in heavy industry. In addition, sheet steel storage floors have a higher load-bearing capacity than plastic storage floors and can therefore also transport heavier loads. We would be happy to advise you without obligation and put together the optimal solution for your conveyor system.

Drive and tail pulleys

How can drive and tail pulleys be coated and why are there smooth and rough surface coatings?

Drive and tail pulleys are critical components in a conveyor system and have a direct impact on the system's performance and efficiency. In order to ensure the best possible entrainment of the conveyed goods, it is therefore of great importance that the surface coatings of the drive and tail pulleys are carefully selected.

There are different ways to coat drive and tail pulleys. As with most idlers, the drums can lpainted, galvanized or with sheet rubber or Baytec coated .

A common method for surface coating of drive and tail pulleys is painting, which is applied as a protective layer to prevent moisture or corrosion. In addition, the process of galvanizing to increase the corrosion resistance of the drums and thus contributes to extending their service life.

How can a drum be overwound?

A drum can either cylindrical or crowned (conical) turned become. Deciding between the two options depends on the specific deployment. overspeed means that the drum is further machined after the manufacturing process to adapt it to the specific needs of the conveyor system. This can mean, for example, improved concentricity or greater stability.

From a wall thickness of 5 mm, our drive and idler pulleys are overwound for better concentricity. Over-tightening will flatten the surface of the drum more precisely matched to the specifications of your conveyor system. It not only improves the quality and performance of our drums, but also extends their lifespan.

How does a larger diameter of the drive drum affect the conveying speed?

a bigger one Drive drum diameter has a direct influence on the conveyor speed of a system. The belt speed depends on the peripheral speed of the drum, which increases with a drive drum with a larger diameter. A higher peripheral speed in turn leads to a higher belt speed, so that a higher conveying speed can be achieved in a system with larger drums.

The speed of the drive drum is another factor affecting belt speed. Higher RPM results in higher belt speed, while lower RPM results in slower belt speed. However, it should be noted that a belt speed that is too high or too low has an impact on the material flow. Therefore, it is of great importance to determine the optimal belt speed for your specific application to ensure the best possible performance. Our experts at the FMG Förderelemente GmbH from Körchow will be happy to advise you on the selection of the right drive and idler pulley for your conveyor system.
